A licensed aircraft maintenance engineer deals with the maintenance of aircraft and its components. Just like doctors need a license to run legally, an AME also requires a permit to work in the aviation industry.
DGCA is the Indian Government body that gives out license to the students who have completed the AME course from a DGCA approved aircraft maintenance engineering college in India.
Worth of the AME License
A licensed AME inspects the flight before take-off and signs an FRC (Flight Releasing Certificate), which says that the aircraft is ready to take off. The AME license is valid across the globe, allowing you to work in India and abroad. Being a licensed AME, you get an opportunity to work in both the private and Government sector.
How to get the AME License?
To get an AME license, you need to qualify the AME entrance exam and then take admission in the basic AME course at a DGCA approved institute.
There are a lot of aircraft maintenance engineering colleges in India, but not all are DGCA approved. At IIA, we offer two types of AME course.
- Category A1: It deals with minor or line maintenance of heavy aircraft fitted with a jet engine.
- Category B1.1: It deals with significant maintenance, including repair/replacement/overhauling of mechanical components of heavy aircraft fitted with a jet engine.
The duration of the AME course is two years for Category A and four years for Category B1.1.
On successful completion of the one-year basic training and one-year on-job practical training (for Category A), the license is issued to the candidate by DGCA, Government of India.
On successful completion of the two-year basic training and two-year on-job practical training (for Category B1.1), the license is issued to the candidate by DGCA, Government of India.
IIA Group is the best AME college in India in terms of placement and education. Since we are DGCA and EASA approved institute, all our courses are designed to meet the guidelines set by both the agencies.
